Steve Acevedo is an action-driven, emotion-focused filmmaker currently in production directing his first feature-length film BALLPARK, adapted from an original play about a couple that finds love at first sight but can't make it work. His projects reflect a rigor and affinity for capturing heart-pounding moments, from elaborate and intensely violent sequences, to a simple shared breath that changes everything. His work as a director has been recognized with multiple awards, including Best Short Film at the LA Latino International Film Festival for his film EL COCODRILO. Substantial commercial directing credits include campaigns for BurgerFi, Cerveza Montejo, Nike Basketball, SWBC, and others.
Steve was one of 3 up-and-coming directors selected for the Disney/ABC-DGA Directing Fellowship in 2008, where he had the chance to shadow TV directors Larry Shaw, Patrick Norris, Laura Innes, Rob Corn, and Christopher Chulack on episodes of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, GREEK, BROTHERS & SISTERS, GREY’S ANATOMY and SOUTHLAND. In 2012, he was selected for the NBC Directing Fellowship where he shadowed Renny Harlin, Jonathan Frakes, and Stephen Surjik on multiple episodes of BURN NOTICE, and was a selected participant for the 2014 Sony Diverse Directors Program.
His perspective is informed by extensive experience as a cinematographer, including recent indie feature credits SATELLITE OF LOVE, and the Austin Film Festival Audience Award-winner, JACK’S APOCALYPSE. 2nd Unit photography credits include the FX series, THE BRIDGE and the currently released feature, ALL SUMMERS END. He’s collaborated with director Ken Jeong on the ESPN 30 for 30 film, STUDENT/ATHLETE, and with Max Greenfield and Jerry Ferrara for the Direct TV series, THE GENTLEMEN’S LEAGUE. In the documentary world, he shot the Leonardo DiCaprio produced feature CATCHING THE SUN (Netflix), as well as the Jimmy Buffett documentary PARROTHEADS, and ROAR: BEHIND THE MOVIE for Animal Planet.
Born and raised in San Antonio, TX, Steve currently resides in the lush urban sprawl of North Hollywood, CA.
